History & Documentary

Since our founding in 1972, we've had many twists and turns, including FBI visits, teaching at Stanford, and much more. Filmmaker Peter Menchini made a 26-minute documentary about the people who created the nation's only free and anonymous sex information service. The documentary Ask Us About Sex! celebrates what volunteers with little money and a lot of heart can do for community education.

The documentary includes interviews with famous SFSI graduates Carol Queen, Isadora "Ask Isadora" Alman, Good Vibrations founder Joani Blank, and SFSI founders Toni Ayers and Maggi Rubenstein. For a tax-deductible $25 donation you can have your own VHS copy of Ask Us About Sex! Make your check or money order in U.S. funds payable to SFSI and mail it to:
